Ingredients:
- 1 chopped onion
- 1 chopped carrot
- ½ chopped green pepper
- 1 pound extra lean ground turkey (or chicken)
- 1 (8 oz.) can tomato sauce
- 1 (15 oz.) can crushed tomatoes
- 1 (8 oz.) can mushrooms
- ¼ cup barbecue sauce
- Pepper to taste
- 8 whole wheat buns
Preparation:
- Wash fresh vegetables before preparing.
- In a pan, sauté onions, carrot, green pepper and ground turkey over medium-high heat for about 5 minutes.
- Add tomato sauce, crushed tomatoes, mushrooms, barbecue sauce and seasonings in a same pan and bring to a boil.
- Reduce heat and simmer for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Uncover and cook until thick (about 3 minutes).
- Serve on toasted or plain buns.
